Mark P. Finlay Architects Wins AIA New England's People's Choice Award

aerial exteriorOctober 16, 2007 - Mark P. Finlay Architects received recognition in the 2007 People's Choice Awards. Hosted by AIA New England, the award program was open to all architects participating int he Design Awards Program as part of AIA New England's Annual Conference.

Finlay's Southport Residence won for "The house in which I'd most like to live" and "The project that best creates a sense of peacefulness." The 18,000 square foot shingle style residence lies on seven acres of waterfront property at the mouth of Southport Harbor. The home features an 800 square foot boathouse set at the waters edge. Essentially a miniature of the mian residence, it is equipped with a full kitchen, living room, dining room and full bath.

Submission boards were exhibited int he beginning of October, at the Ring's End Showroom in Branford, the New CanaanLibrary and the Pequot Library in Southport. Voting was open to all visitors who voted on five categories: "The house in which I'd most like to live", "The space in which I'd most like to study", The space in which I'd most liek to work", "The place in which I'd most like to play", and "The project that best creates a sense of peacefulness."

The home was recently chosen as a Hollywood movie set for Old Dogs, a comedy directed by Walt Becker featuring actors John Travolta, Robin Williams, Kelly Preston, Matt Dillow, Laurie Laughlin and Bernie Mac. The movie is scheduled ot be released in 2008. Finlay's Southport Residence will be featured in the November issue of Westport Magazine.
